Shibuya after dark at a glance
The crossing and the screens around it look different at night, and the streets behind it fill up with people going out. Center Gai and Dogenzaka are the two main nightlife areas. Small bars and izakaya sit in alleys close to the station.
One rule shapes the evening. Drinking in streets, parks and other public places inside the marked zone around Shibuya Station is banned every day from 18:00 to 05:00. It has applied all year since 1 October 2024 and is not a Halloween-only rule.

Where to go in the evening
Four areas, each with its own mood.
Center Gai
A shopping and youth culture district with shops, restaurants, record stores and clubs. In the evening it turns into a going-out area. Opening hours differ from shop to shop, so do not expect everything to be open at the same time.
Dogenzaka
Named together with Center Gai as a nightlife focus of Shibuya. If you want to sleep nearby, check the exact street before you book.
Where to stay โNonbei Yokocho
A small alley of bars and izakaya close to the station. Its origins go back to the early 1950s. No single closing time applies to the alley, so ask at the door before you settle in.
Shibuya Yokocho
A food and entertainment complex on the ground floor of the south building of RAYARD MIYASHITA PARK, in Jingumae. The operator gives a general frame of 11:00 to 05:00 every day. Individual venues differ, and unplanned maintenance closures are possible. You can use it without a reservation, but that does not guarantee a seat.

For a food-led night, the food page lists what the yokocho serve, from ramen and gyoza to yakitori and karaage.

The street drinking ban
Know it before you buy a can.
What is banned
Drinking in streets, parks and other public places inside the marked zone, every day from 18:00 to 05:00. The zone is a defined area drawn on a map by Shibuya City, not the whole district of Shibuya. Check the map before you go.
Outside the zone
The city also asks people outside the zone not to drink in a way that disturbs others. That is an appeal, not the legal ban that applies inside the zone.
Tours are no exception
Joining a guided tour gives you no exemption from the rule. Drink inside a venue and keep open drinks off the street.
Night tours compared
Two formats, very different costs. Published details for 2026.
| Format | Length | Price | What to know |

Late viewpoints and getting home
Plan your last hour before you start.
MAG8 rooftop lounge

The deck has stairs, so it suits only visitors who can walk on their own. Strollers are not allowed on the deck.
Shibuya Sky
The tower deck has its own evening hours and its own ticket. Read the details first and do not assume it stays open late.
Shibuya Sky guide โThe last train
Train times differ by line and by day. Look up the last departure for your own line in the evening, and decide before midnight whether you will take a train or a taxi. More about the station is on its own page.
Shibuya Station โPhotos at the crossing
Follow the pedestrian signal and do not stand still in the middle of the crossing to film. Light trails and neon look best from a safe spot at the side or from above.
Best views โIf your Tokyo trip also includes the old temple district, Senso-ji and Asakusa have their own guide.
